The Atomic Mermaid Says Hello!

Hello there, and welcome to The Atomic Mermaid! I’m Dee, an artist and library keeper living on the beautiful California coast with my very fluffy cat. The Atomic Mermaid is a place where I will offer an insider’s peek at my work: from the inspiration, to the process, to the finished pieces. I get a kick out of creating my own oddball world, populated with all sorts of interesting characters. It’s a place where mythical creatures (or are they?) and well-meaning monsters can share a milk shake or a Mai Tai.

I would also like to use this space to share some of my interests that pop up often in my artwork. Of course I love mermaids, but I am also very interested in tiki culture, midcentury design, and old Hollywood, especially the classic monsters like my favorite muse, The Bride of Frankenstein. Here on The Atomic Mermaid, you will be able to find all sorts of recommendations for things like movies, books, artists, and swanky spots. I’d even like to slip in a few nifty tiki drink recipes. I hope you’ll come along for the ride, and please be sure to share your own thoughts and recommendations as well! Here’s a little taste of what you might see around here.

    • Thank you so much! I am using the Adelle theme, which I chose because I thought it was the cutest free theme, but I’m a little sad that I can’t make the big black banner a different color without a paid account. I usually use ink and watercolors in my art, and occasionally I use ink and then color the piece in Photoshop. I’ll definitely share more about the media I use in future posts. Thanks for the comment!
